Elias Castegren
Elias was born in the small town of Mariefred, Sweden, in February 1987.

Being brought up in a family with a lot of music, he played the piano early on, and started taking lessons in the second grade (he still takes lessons, more than ten years later).

A coincidence
He got in to playing bass by a coincidence. One particularly snowy and cold January evening in seventh grade, two of his older friends rang on the door and asked him if he wanted to play bass with them (since their current bass player, according to them, sucked and was an idiot).

Elias said he had never played bass before, except maybe one or two times in school, but they insisted that he'd learn it quickly.

And right they were!

Cowboys from hell
A few weeks later, "Cowboys from hell" was formed.

They played mostly covers but had one song of their own called "Full Throttle" (About a "crazy auto daredevil" on a motorcycle on the run from the police. Hell yeah!).

The whole experience caused Elias to start playing bass in his spare time as well, and pretty soon he was playing a lot of notes, really fast, and REALLY sloppy. However, it took a LONG time for him to realize that he wasn't really that good yet.

Wizardslippers
"Cowboys from hell" lasted about a year, and a few months later he was asked by another friend if he could play bass for one gig with the band "Wizardslippers".

It would in December, outside in about -20 degrees Celsius. This was the start of a four year career of the band that in the end had managed to record two demos and become quite famous in the local area.

Music program
In the ninth grade, Elias' music interest became stronger and stronger, and when it was time to choose high school, he chose the music program in St. Eskil's High School in Eskilstuna.

There he met the keyboardist of the newly formed band Tambu, that needed a bass player. And because of his ever growing interest in music, he gladly accepted without having the slightest idea of what kind of band it was.

This is something that he definetly hasn't regretted since.
Elias is influenced by Jaco Pastorius, Flea, Les Claypool and Tommy Thordson (Of Mats/Morgan Band) among many others.
