Mikael Hronek was born in Eskilstuna, Sweden, in December 1985.
With gigantic ears he entered the world and made his parents wonder… What have we done!? But luckily for Tambu, his parents raised him well and made a good drummer out of him.
Mikael started school in the area he still lives in, called Hällbybrunn.
After 6th grade he decided to go to a school a few miles away from his home, and the school's name was, and still is,
Tegelviken.
Great decision
This turned out to be a great decision, because there he met the guitarist Mikael Ericsson and they started playing
music together with some other friends.
And after that time it has been almost impossible to separate these two crazy musicians.
New schools
After the three years at Tegelviken, it was time to choose new schools and education, but of course Mikael and Mikael
ended up in the same class.
And after the graduation it was time for their military service, but not even that could
tear them apart, and they ended up in the same squad.
Bored
3 weeks of eating from a small plate and taking orders in the woods of Stockholm bored him, so he quit his
military service and gave all his time to music.
And that’s where he is today. Playing drums like a god, partying and looking for girls every weekend.
Mikael’s music-career began at the age of 8, when he started playing the guitar.
First band
When he was twelve he joined his first band, “The Wombats,” which he formed with his new friend and guitarist Mikael Ericsson at their school, Tegelviken.
Couldn’t play guitar solos
But at the age of 14, while playing the solo to the famous Queen song, “Tie your mother down,” he suddenly came to the conclusion that he couldn’t play guitar solos.
Started playing drums
So he quit playing guitar and started playing drums instead. He has been playing drums ever since. He always keeps a pair of drumsticks in his pants.
Mikael is heavily influenced by Jeff Porcaro, the best groove drummer of all time. He’s also influenced by Simon Phillips, Virgil Donati, Dave Weckl, Mikael Johansson (drum-teacher).
Mikael uses Sonor drums designd by Horst Link, Meinl Cymbals, Evans drumsheads and
Vater drumstick. He also uses Shure microphones and Koss inear-plug.
